  <title>DISC GOLF ICON PASSES ~ Greg Black</title>
  <link>http://austindiscgolf.org/index.php?name=News&amp;file=article&amp;sid=125</link>
  <description>DISC GOLF ICON PASSES

Greg Black died in May 2013. Greg was an early disc golf ambassador, who converted many. Any Austin disc golfer back then knew Greg Black. He stood out, loud and clear! We kidded that he started playing when we only had wooden discs! It was certainly true he started when Waterloo Park was Austin&#039;s only course, with just trees and poles as targets.

Greg was over the top, wonderful, redundant, frustrating, loyal, thoughtful, thoughtless, and had a big heart. Like the philosopher Nietzsche, he believed moderation was mediocrity.

As his youngest son adroitly said, “He was a good guy who f____d up a lot.” And as a friend, he’d do anything for you, even if it screwed him!

We’ll miss Greg!
For any questions or comments, contact: efkunish@austin.rr.com

If there’s a Disc Golf Heaven, GREG BLACK is throwin’ a HAMMER!!!

As Greg would say:

YOW, WE’RE HAVIN’ SOME FUN NOW!!!

R.I.P.

~~~~
  There will be an informal wake at Balcones District Park, 12017 Amhurst Dr., Austin TX 78759 (just off Mopac taking the Duval/Burnet Road exit), on Sunday, May 19, at Noon.  If people want to bring a side dish they can, or not.  Again, it is informal and people will celebrate Greg&#039;s life and probably tell ridiculous stories.
Thanks again
~~~~~
May we all smile at his picture every day

  <title>1st Annual &quot;Young at Heart&quot; Parent/Child &quot;Mixed&quot; Doubles Disc Golf Event</title>
  <link>http://austindiscgolf.org/index.php?name=News&amp;file=article&amp;sid=123</link>
  <description>Make your reservations for Sunday, May 12, 2013 for a day of Family Fun at Zilker Park Disc Golf Course!!

1st Annual &quot;Young at Heart&quot; Parent/Child &quot;Mixed&quot; Doubles Disc Golf Event

This will be a first of its kind Parent/Child &quot;mixed&quot; Doubles Disc Golf Event brought to you by the Waterloo Disc Golf Club (event run by Troy Herman and Rock Schouman)

The criteria for this event will be Teams of: 1 Parent and 1 Child

The inspiration for this is the opportunity for kids and their parents to play a Disc Golf round together. Too many times we go to events and never get to relax with our kids or show them why we love the sport so much. Here is your way to make it a lifetime memory and lifetime sport for your family.

Details:
~ 1 Round of 18 Holes at Zilker Park
~ 1 Parent and 1 Child will make up a Team
~ Doubles Event with Alternating Throws for each Team
~ South Side Tees (9 holes): The YOUTH MUST THROW FIRST (then you will alternate throws to finish the hole)
~ North Side Tees (9 Holes): The ADULT MUST THROW FIRST (then you will alternate throws to finish the hole)
~ Team Divisions will be determined by the YOUNGER person&#039;s age

*You Will Register/Play The Division According To The YOUNGEST Team Member&#039;s Age

Age Groups:
Up to 6 years
7 yrs to 9 yrs
10 yrs to 12 yrs
13 yrs to 16 yrs
17+ yrs (Some of you older Father/Son, Mother/Daughter, Father/Daugher, and Mother/Son teams need some bonding time too)

The additional benefit of this event will be that your donations will go directly to E.D.G.E. (Educational Disc Golf Experience) for kids. The donation will be a portion of each team&#039;s entry fee. (www.edgediscgolf.org)

Online registration here: http://www.discgolfunited.com/disc-golf-tournaments/tournament-dashboard.cfm/tourn_id/778

Entry: $25.00 Entry Per Team ($5.00 per entry goes to E.D.G.E.)
Registration: Online or In person
Players Pack: 2 Discs Per Entry Fee plus (additional items may be available)
Limit: 36 Teams (72 Players)
Time: Check-in and Sign-up starts at 9:00 a.m./Tee off around 10:00 a.m. (subject to change) [expect to finish hopefully by 12:30]

~ the time should give you a chance for an early Mothers Day Breakfast or get you back for a late Mothers Day Lunch ~

*If you have more than one child and would like them to participate, we will try get your youth a partner so you can still be together and play! Be sure to let us know if you need someone*

**SPONSORS NEEDED** (help us fulfill charitabel donations, the costs, and the payout for the players. No criteria, but we will accept it all for the event)

** Volunteers Needed for possible youth partners, staff, instruction, guides, etc.**

This is a great opportunity to introduce someone new to the sport, make it a family day for everyone, spend time with youngsters, and make a memory that will last.

*I understand that this will be on Mother&#039;s Day, so thank you for your willingness to support our event on one of the limited days that were open. It will only last a few hours, so mom can have the rest of the day for pampering... or a long nap while you are out with the kiddies... or treat her right and pay her entry fee to play!!*

  <title>Zilker Disc Golf Course TEMPORARY Hole Closures</title>
  <link>http://austindiscgolf.org/index.php?name=News&amp;file=article&amp;sid=121</link>
  <description>ZILKER HOLES #14 - #18 WILL BE TEMPORARILY CLOSED ON THE MORNING AND AFTERNOON OF FRIDAY, APRIL 26TH

This is to accommodate a mulching project on Friday coordinated by the Austin Heritage Tree Foundation and the Texas School for the Deaf. There will be a lot of deaf kids down there helping to spread the mulch, so this temporary closing will give them a good safe area around where they are working.

The holes will re-open mid-to-late Friday afternoon after the project is complete. Until then, after you finish hole #13 just head back across the park road to #1 or #2.

Thank you for your cooperation!

  <title>Worlds Biggest &quot;It&#039;s My Park Day&quot; Workday!!</title>
  <link>http://austindiscgolf.org/index.php?name=News&amp;file=article&amp;sid=119</link>
  <description>Saturday March 2nd is shaping up to be the biggest disc golf workday in Austin’s history!

1) Waterloo Disc Golf Club is planning a workday at Roy G. that day, starting at 10 am (going until about 2 pm).

We are still waiting on confirmation of being part of the big It’s My Park day event, but even if we aren’t officially part of that we will still be having the workday.

Mulching, removing fallen trees and those huge thorn vines, and trash pickup will all be part of it. There will be drinks and snacks for the volunteers, including cold frosty beverages compliments of the Texas States group!

We will also be working at Roy G. on Sunday, March 3rd – finishing up projects that we don’t complete on Saturday. Josh Rippie is heading up both of these work days (thanks Josh!)

2) SADA (South Austin Disc Assoc) will be having a workday at Searight that day, from 7 am until about 11 am; part of It’s My Park Day; drinks and food available for the volunteers; more info and sign up here: http://austinparks.org/multi-project-list.html?eventid=567&amp;amp;linkid=83&amp;amp;action=selectproject

3) WBDGC (Wells Branch Disc Golf Club) will be having a workday at Wells Branch that day, from 9 am until 12 pm; part of It’s My Park Day; drinks and snacks available for the volunteers; more info and sign up here: http://austinparks.org/multi-project-list.html?eventid=567&amp;amp;linkid=106&amp;amp;action=selectproject

4) Mitch Justice will be heading up a workday at Manor that day, starting at 10 am; finishing up the long process of getting the course ready for Texas State DG Championships. A lot has been done during the past few work days, but there is still more to do – that course was in need of a LOT of help and we are almost there. drinks and food available for the volunteers.

5) Finally, the Windsor Park Neighborhood Assoc. (the neighbors of Bartholomew Park) is having a It’s My Park Day event there at Bart on March 2nd. Part of it will be cleaning debris and trash out of the creek – the whole length of it; quite a bit of that creek goes through the disc golf course. If you want to work on that project instead, go for it! It will make our course nicer, and when you show up let them know you’re a disc golfer that loves Bart The link to register for this project is: http://austinparks.org/multi-project-list.html?eventid=567&amp;amp;linkid=102&amp;amp;action=selectproject

For the It’s My Park Day projects, go to those links or go to: http://austinparks.org/its-my-park-day.html and pick a project, there are a ton to choose from; volunteers who register will get a shirt plus other goodies from some of the event sponsors.

If Waterloo gets approval for our Roy G. workday to be part of it, we’ll send around that link too.

Thanks, and mark your calendars for next Saturday, March 2nd – please plan on helping out at one of these great projects. Your disc golf courses, and your friends, will thank you!

NOTE: We will NOT have the Saturday BART MINI EVENT on March 2, 2013... go help a park instead. Thanks!</description>
