Waterloo is having a last-minute, mid-week workday tomorrow at Circle C!

Matt Papa and Josh Rippie will be out at Circle C tomorrow (Wednesday, April 18th) spreading mulch. They could use some help raking it out and making it beautiful. They will have some rakes provided, but feel free to bring your own tools.

7am - 1pm or so.

Thank You to SADA for getting some mulch out there for us.

Disc Golf Association (DGA) is having a contest to give away a 9-hole course. This is not the usual raffle but an essay contest and voting for the best essays is what moves them on in the contest.

There is still plenty of time to enter yourself. Also, voting on existing entries continues until mid-July.

Our own Troy Herman wrote one, and we encourage you to go check it out and vote for it; it is called Play it Forward.

You can vote for up to 5 essays PER DAY, so go back every day and pick your favorite(s). I think all you need to do to be eligible to vote is to “Like” the page (though you do also have to be a facebook member).

There is also an entry there from Scott Hougland, called Central Texas Temp Course.

The link to the contest is: apps.facebook.com/cont...sts/93874/

The Lone Star Deaf Disc Golf Assoc. (LSDDGA) and the Austin Bible Ridge Church are having a workday this Sunday, May 22nd.

The goal is to get the course looking and playing better for the National Deaf Disc Golf Championships being held here in Austin next weekend. Please come on out and help, this is a great chance to support our local deaf disc golf community and to give back to the church that gave us disc golfers such a cool course to play on.

Waterloo Disc Golf Club

LSDDGA & the church sent the following info:

The project is from 9:00am to 1:00pm this Sunday, May 22. We will meet at the church at 9:00 am (there is a little pavilion by hole #1) to go over the project list and put some teams together. We'll be putting out shredded mulch on T-Boxes, picking up trash, cleaning disc baskets, and chalking the Out of Bounds.

The church has some rakes and forks for mulch and trash bags. You will want to bring gloves, hat, sunscreen, etc. and comfortable shoes (if you are familiar with the course it can be a little challenging terrain).

We will also provide water and snacks for the day.

Any other equipment you think might help with the spruce-up feel free to bring. Wheelbarrow would be good. Maybe something to trim vines, undergrowth around baskets or T-Boxes.

Here is the follow-up from last month's William David Lang V Memorial, April 9, 2011, Steeplechase Park in Kyle

Twenty four players competed in the tournament plus at least that many friends, neighbors, and other family members came down to the park to enjoy the day and to take part in the celebration of William’s life. Thanks to the incredible amounts of sponsorship from Williams family, neighbors, and friends, plus Disc Nation’s incredible support, we were able to make huge payouts to the players (between 325% - 350%, and we paid out to all 24 players). In addition to this great payout, we also raised $850 for the charity Austin Recovery.

Open players paid in $80 and were paid out $290 in cash.

1 Mondo Flores 60 59 119 $150
2 Adam Hernandez59 70 129 $90
3 Aaron Stair 69 67 136 $30
4 Matt Harris 70 69 139 $20

Amateur players paid in $300 and were paid out $985 in Disc Nation gift certificates.

1 Eric Salazar 58 65 123 $110
2 Chris Bohls 70 69 139 $60

T4 Spencer Liscano 61 64 125 $40
T4 Emilio Herrera 64 61 125 $40

No aces, but Roger George won $40 in the ace-pot CTP afterwards.

Thanks again to Mary Baker and David Lang (William’s parents), Disc Nation, Kyle Parks Depts, and all the great sponsors! Plus I couldn’t have done this without the awesome help of Damon Neth, Roger & Stephanie Allen, Troy Herman, Roger George, Aaron Stair, and Glenn Schleicher.

One final reminder about the William David Lang V Memorial Disc Golf Tournament this Saturday in Kyle. There is still time to pre-register through Disc Nation, the event will be up on the site until 10 pm tonight. www.discnation.com/Lan...ament.html

And we expect plenty of folks just to come down to the park Saturday morning, you can sign up between 8 – 9 am.

We will have added cash for all the Pro divisions and added merch for all the Am divisions, plus other prizes to give away.

Also, we are still looking for last-minute sponsors. If you have anything you can bring down to the park that morning or during the day, please do it; discs, shirts, hats, minis, gift certificates, cash donations. We’ll gladly accept it all!

I’ll be at Zilker Park this evening for League, so you can bring it to me there if you want. We’ll make tee signs for any sponsorship of $50 or more (cash or merchandise).

William’s parents will be cooking some food for sale at lunch, and we’ll be doing a course clean-up following the awards (nothing fancy, just taking some trash bags out on the course to pick up any litter that is around).

Below is the sponsorship request letter for this event. Disc Nation is a HUGE sponsor and Waterloo Disc Golf Club has already agreed to help too; and when I sent out the email about it on Friday, the first to respond with a "yes" was SADA. Thank you South Side!!!

Dear Sponsor,

Saturday, April 9, 2011 will be the First Annual William David Lang V Memorial Disc Golf Tournament. It will be held at Steeplechase Park in Kyle, TX. William (Billy) died tragically a couple of years ago at the too-young age of 19. His parents, family, and friends are joining together to celebrate his life doing something Billy loved so much: playing disc golf! This will be a fun disc golf event for beginners through pros, and we will be raising money for the local, non-profit, drug rehabilitation center: Austin Recovery.

We would like to ask you to please help us honor William’s memory and support a great local charity that gives back to our community in such an important way: helping people regain their lives. Any amount will help, and for $50 or more, we will include your name on a tee sign on the disc golf course during the event. Sponsorship can be in the form of cash, merchandise, or gift certificates. Checks can be made payable to Austin Recovery or to Gordon Maxim-Kelley, and should be sent to Gordon at 1905 Harmon Hills Rd, Dripping Springs, TX, 78620. Merchandise and certificates should be sent here too.

If you have any questions about the event, please contact the Tournament Director, Gordon Maxim-Kelley at (512) 858-1615, or Billy’s parents: Mary Baker and David Lang at (830) 540-3301.

Thank you in advance for your support!

Gordon Maxim-Kelley
Tournament Director

Saturday April 9th will be the Billy Lang Memorial Disc Golf Tournament at Steeplechase Park in Kyle, TX.

It is a 1-day, 2-round tournament; not pdga sanctioned.

Billy Lang loved playing disc golf. He died a couple of years ago (at the young age of 19, I believe) and his parents want to honor him by throwing a tournament in his name. The entry fees will be kept low and it will be a fundraiser for the Austin Recovery Center, but there will be added cash and prizes.

More information coming soon, but mark that date in your calendars. We want to have a really fun event for all the players that honors Billy's spirit, gives back to our community, and helps his parents with the healing process.

If you knew Billy, please get in touch with me: gordon @ ventbird.com or a PM through this message board.

NEEDED - 10-15 Experienced Disc Golfers to help introduce Disc Golf to a group of It's My Park Day volunteers.

WHEN: Saturday, March 5th from 11am-3pm

WHERE: Zilker Park, North Course

Interested parties, please email Zac Tolbert at zac @ club51discgolf.com

Link to Event Website click connect.austinparks.or...ty_id=1060

Background Info:

March 5th marks the 9th annual It's My Park Day, presented by The Austin Parks Foundation. This year's event promises to be much bigger than years past, with 60+ projects citywide! One of the single largest projects will be the final step in the Zilker Tree Rescue Project, which will include 200 volunteers and the planting of nearly 300 trees throughout the park including many around the disc golf course. But don't worry, The Urban Forestry Department and Austin Parks Foundation were proactive, seeking out the advise of local disc golf course designers to ensure the new trees will do nothing but improve the course.

The best part is, the Forestry Dept. approached the Waterloo Disc Golf Club and Club 51 Disc Golf with the desire to promote disc golf through this event! So after the morning of tree planting, volunteers can head over to the Zilker North course for a small lunch and free disc golf introduction.

Thank you in advance for your support!

I’ve seen/heard word going round that 2 baskets were stolen from the Austin Ridge Bible Church course. This is really despicable!!!

They put up a great course for all to play, so the least we can do is help the church get the baskets back from whoever stole them (prosecution of the thieves would be even better though, in my opinion).

Below is some information from Josh Thornton, the Property Director for the church. If you have ANY information at all about these thefts, please contact Josh.

It was basket #1 and #3 on our course. They have 1 and 3 on them. They are Innova Disc Catchers. Red lettering and yellow top trim. They will not have the locking tab on them. They were donated to the church by an individual trying to give back to the community.

Thanks for your help,

With all the frustrating events surrounding disc golf here in Austin lately, it is nice to finally have some good news.

The improvements to the Zilker course have begun!!!

The large limestone benches have already been installed on all 18 holes, and the new concrete tee boxes on the south side have been framed up and should be done pretty soon.

Fresh mulch will be put out this Saturday morning (9 am – 1 pm) during the club’s workday, and more work is still ahead with stuff like paths, erosion controls, and other Circle C / Searight type features.

Later in the year, we hope to put in new tee signs. This will mark the first time there have been signs at the Zilker course since the late 80s or early 90s.

The work is being done through a partnership between the club and the Austin Parks & Rec. Dept. The has committed over $2000 to this project and the more we can raise, the sooner we can get it all done. The city is spending a lot on this course as well, through materials, equipment, and labor.

If you would like to make a donation to the project, you can mail it to the club at WDGC, PO Box 33531, Austin, TX, 78746 or you can donate in person at the Disc Nation store at 1218 W. Slaughter Lane (and if you do, they will match that donation dollar for dollar – thanks Disc Nation!). You can also do it in person at the club’s Ice Bowl at Zilker on February 5th or at any of the club’s other minis and events.

If we end up with more than we need for Zilker, we’ll spend the rest on Bartholomew Very Happy
