Passing through Austin...

Post Posted: Tue May 25, 2010 10:07 am

Hey Austin Disc Golfers... I am going to be passing through Austin mid-June and would love some suggestions on which course(s) I should hit. Even better, if someone would be interested in meeting up to play around, I would love a tour guide. Also, going out on a limb, if there are any trusting golfers that have a couch that they would be willing to let a traveling golfer sleep on for the night, it would save me having to find a hotel! But first, I'd definitely be willing to play a round with ya so you can decide if I'm a sketchball or not before deciding whether to lend a couch/floor for me crash. A huge thanks already! I hope to meet some cool people while there and to play one or two of the amazing courses that I have heard about in Austin.

I have always had a hard time getting people to respond to my posts on this forum. what days will you be in Austin? I would recomend Circle R to anyone coming to central texas. Two courses, pay to play, camping available on the course on weekends. We have a wide variety of course styles, but circle r will work for anyone. Other course recomendations would include Circle C, Pease, Austin Ridge, Old Settlers, Wilco (costs $1) for big courses. Searight, Cat Hollow, Rivery, Zilker for medium courses. I like Bart also but you definitely need a guide there unless they put new signs up. Nine holers include Brushy Creek Sports Complex (big nine hole) Cactus Patch (technical woodsy church course) Wells Branch(great for beginers)

Hi Andy,

Sorry for the lack of response, but Judson is unfortunately correct. Most Austin golfers use the pdga discussion board a lot more than this one (it hasn't helped that too much of our info has gotten out-of-date). But we are working on fixing all that and we hope it be a lot more useful of a site soon. I think most people check in to see what notices and info have been posted on the forum, but don't really use it as a back & forth communication tool.

You would likely find some willing "couches" by posting there of the pdga board. The club area is:

There is a "visiting austin" thread; it hasn't had anything posted on it in a year or so, so it is way down the list, but it also has a few good course recomendations and some directions I think.

Judson lists some good courses! Circle R is great but not always open - you'd have to contact them in advance to make sure, but well worth it if you can. Closer and always open: Circle C (also called Slaughter Creek Metro), Travis Country East Metro Park (in Manor, just east of town; but another fantastic course), Wilco (in Round Rock, just north of town), Pease in central Austin and likely to be removed at the end of the year.

I hope you enjoy your visit!

Oh yeah I forgot to mention Manor and the met center. Those are great courses too. Thanks for picking up the slack Gordo. Circle R is pretty much open every weekend now and camping is available there.
